As a practical, interactive, solution-focused therapist, my treatment approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients resolve current problems and identify self defeating patterns of behavior. With sensitivity and compassion, individuals are encouraged to work toward behaviors that will enhance well being and overcome psychological issues creating distress.
Blending conventional and alternative approaches with an emphasis on Viktor Frankl's Logotherapy, I draw on a variety of styles and techniques to provide meaningful strategies individualized to the needs of each unique being. Therapy is intended to encourage client's to recognize and build on their strengths, identify opportunity in adversity and realize life purpose and meaning. Soul Food Counseling was conceived from the belief that therapy should address the three dimensions of man: the body, mind, and spirit. To ignore one dimension would inhibit the growth of another. Satisfaction comes from understanding and fulfilling the needs of all the intricate mechanisms of the human being. The therapeutic process is a journey toward finding sustenance and, subsequently, balance in life. Soul Food seeks to address the potential inherent within every individual so one can live in wisdom, compassion, and peace.
I have drawn wisdom and inspiration from Dr. Robert C. Barnes, Dr. Dorothy Barnes, Steven Southwick MD, Dr. Ann Graber, and Steve Willis LPC whose unique insights have contributed to a strong foundation for clinical practice.
